KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT

What is in this build?

The essential time-clock flow works offline after setup for PINs already used on this tablet, and should work for fingers already added on its reader (not yet tried with a real reader). Some features still need a connection or a different device.

Ready for the offline trial

  • Staff PINs already used on this tablet with internet, for clock-in and clock-out. The tablet learns each PIN the first time it is used there.
  • Fingers added on this tablet’s fingerprint reader should work offline straight away, because the tablet refreshes its staff list as soon as each one is added. Not yet tried with a real reader.
  • Breakfast, lunch, general and phone breaks, including ending a break.
  • Previously learned cards from a USB or Bluetooth keyboard-style NFC reader.
  • Encrypted pending attendance retained through an app restart.
  • Ordered, duplicate-safe sending when the connection returns.

Internet is still needed

  • First-time pairing and downloading the staff list.
  • Each person’s first PIN on this tablet. Until then it opens nothing offline.
  • New or changed PINs, cards, staff and schedules.
  • Adding or removing a person’s finger, with an owner, admin or branch admin signed in.
  • Manager approvals and fresh server checks.
  • Uploading photos and sending Telegram messages.
  • Automatic attendance sync within 24 hours. Older records need manager review; they are not silently counted as worked time. Managers are alerted on the website, and in Telegram if a managers’ group is linked.

Important limitations

  • Restarting while offline can lose unsent clock photos. Saved attendance remains.
  • Fingerprint support is new and not yet tested with a real reader. Only the SecuGen Unity 20 Bluetooth with the white label works; the blue-label model is for iPads.
  • No task-board or kitchen/breaks-only screen.
  • No management, payroll or reporting screens in this kiosk APK.
  • Full device lock requires Android screen pinning or managed-device setup.
  • Some screens still say “iPad”. On this tablet they mean the tablet.

A CAREFUL FIRST RUN

Install. Pair. Test.

Have a manager nearby and keep the tablet online for the initial setup.

  1. Download on the tablet

Open this page in the tablet’s browser, tap Download Android APK, then open the downloaded file. If Samsung’s Auto Blocker stops it, turn Auto Blocker off in the tablet’s Settings → Security and privacy. If Android asks, allow installing from this browser. If Google Play Protect warns you, check the file came from clock-work.app and choose to install anyway. Afterwards, turn that permission off and Auto Blocker back on.

Already have the earlier test build? Unpin the app if it is pinned, then install this one over it. Do not uninstall first: uninstalling deletes attendance waiting to send. To check you have the new build, open the kiosk’s Settings (the gear): the Fingerprint reader card now has a Choose the reader button. If it says “Waiting for SecuGen’s software for iPad” instead, the earlier build is still installed.

  2. Connect it to your location

Open ClockWork Kiosk while online. Have your manager approve the pairing for the correct branch as Time clock (CLOCK), then wait for the staff list to finish downloading. Keep the tablet’s date and time set automatically.

  3. Add the fingerprint reader (optional)

Use the SecuGen Unity 20 Bluetooth with the white label, and keep it on USB power. SecuGen says it switches itself off after 10 minutes without use; whether it stays on while plugged in is part of this test. Hold its button for 1 to 4 seconds until the blue light blinks. In the tablet’s Settings → Connections → Bluetooth, tap Unity20BT2- with the last four digits of the serial number on its label.

Then in ClockWork Kiosk tap the gear, then Choose the reader. Allow Nearby devices if Android asks, pick the reader and wait for Reader connected. Tap Add or remove people and sign in with the ClockWork username (not email) of an owner, admin or branch admin. The owner sets up the master finger once and must be there to add or remove anyone. During this trial, add fingers only for clearly marked test staff records, not real staff. Do all this before you turn on Android’s screen pinning for the app.

  4. Try the offline flow

Use a clearly identified test staff record, not a real shift. With internet still on, type the test person’s PIN once and go back, so the tablet learns it. Then disconnect internet, test PIN clock-in, a break and clock-out, then restart the app. Confirm the pending attendance is still shown. If you added a test finger, try it offline too.

  5. Reconnect and check once

Reconnect within 24 hours. Confirm the pending queue clears and a manager sees each test event exactly once on the web. Do not clear app data, uninstall or replace pairing while attendance is waiting to send.
